Right after reading the email we went to the website and it loaded fine in Chrome. We pinged the site and ran a traceroute with no problems along the way. Logging in to Webmaster Tools we see the error notice for the domain but the date of the DNS error was December 9th. The website we manage is hosted on hostmonster. Even after clearing our DNS cache the website loaded perfectly fine. As an active member on Pro Webmaster on Stack Exchange we saw a question asked about the same problem http://webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/39015/google-webmaster-tools-dns-errors-hostpapa this person received a similar notice about Googlebot not being able to access their website. Their host denied any problems on their end and pointed their finger at Google. A search on Google shows a few blog post and forum discussions about others having the same problem in the last couple of days and weeks. I wonder if this is a root level DNS issue or where the problem can be? It’s certainly not isolated to one particular hosting company or network. “Over the last 24 hours, Googlebot encountered 3 errors while attempting to retrieve DNS information for your site. The overall error rate for DNS queries for your site is 60.0%.”

That’s the beginning of an email we received on December 11th from Google Webmaster Tools about a website we manage. Right after reading the email we went to the website and it loaded fine in Chrome.
